I've come across a tricky situation in terms of friend + girlfriend + rent.

I've been living with my best mate for a few months and then my girlfriend moved in. Let me caveat this with, my friend was more than happy for her to move in (mainly to reduce rent).

Rent is £1500 per month (bills included).

Now, my best mate thinks the rent should be split by thirds. Despite me and my girlfriend sharing the one room.

What's the etiquette here? Surely, we're only using half the house (he commands the living room anyway - always in front of the TV), we should only pay half the rent.

Anyway, it's a grey area as bills are included. I also have a bedroom that's 1.5x the size of his.

Thoughts and arguments appreciated.

Just got a pair of these:

Audio quality is great, but they hurt your head/ears after a while. Not bad for the price.

My flatmate stinks Jul 29, 11, 1:24 a.m.

So I live in a house with 4 people and one of my flatmates absolutely stinks.

He's the skinniest little fucker too, but the stench is unbearable. His sister is staying with us currently so he's sleeping in the living room, and walking in there after he's slept in there is horrific.

It smells like the equivalent of a block of BO (if you could somehow solidify BO) put in an oven, and then wrapped in mouldy cheese.

I've hinted at it before, but he gets incredibly defensive and then tries to put it back on other people.

I think he showers regularly and uses deodorant but am adamant it's more than this and he needs to see someone about it. Quite a few people have commented too.

How do I broach the subject with him without him sidelining it by trying to make excuses or get defensive?

It's become untenable.

I have a friend moving over from Australia to the UK. He has accumulated a lot of credit card debt (in excess of $10,000AUD).

He, being an idiot, and no intention of moving home, thinks that the debt will disappear magically. What's the best advice I can give him to pay it off (he currently can't afford to pay anywhere near the minimum repayments)? What happens if he lives in the UK and doesn't pay it off?
