Drink of the Day Feb 17, 11, 9:34 p.m.
This topic has been covered in 300 different threads, but I was hoping to capture what designers drink to unwind when we get off work.
Walk in the door, meet your friends, family, fellow QBN peeps– what do you drink when you need a drink?
Art Works Logo Design: Request for Proposals Feb 5, 10, 11:33 a.m.
Coworker sent this to me; I wonder what kind of submissions they'll receive.
http://www.arts.gov/grants/apply…
In Brief:
Propose a design for an “Art Works” logo for the National Endowment for the Arts and produce a finished design that may be reproduced by the Agency in print and online
The Government’s estimate is approximately $25,000.00.
ISO paper sizes in the US Apr 17, 09, 1:31 p.m.
I was wondering if anyone knows of any US companies or schools that have switched to ISO paper sizes for their publications, postcards, ads, marketing materials etc.
I was trying research this as I am in the beginning stages of designing a new grid system and standards for all of our publications.
Metric seems much more efficient, and easier to re-use basic layout elements.
I fear great push-back from our in-house printing (which are often difficult to deal with anyway, especially if they had to learn something new), so I was hoping to see if this has been successfully implemented elsewhere... or should I even attempt such a thing in the Midwest of America.
Is QBN's Filter Broken? Dec 8, 08, 12:51 p.m.
Is the filter working for any of you? I tried to filter it, but..... well.
Leopard and .htaccess Nov 6, 08, 7:42 a.m.
Since files beginning with a '.' are hidden from view, how do developers using Leopard (or maybe any version of OS X) edit .htaccess files? I found an app called xMod, but wanted to see if there are other ways or apps you may use. Thanks!
Logo Crit Aug 22, 08, 11:45 a.m.
Hey everyone -
This project has been especially difficult. It's for a juvenile division of a judicial circuit.
I started out designing more of an official looking seal, and stylized elements, but the client wasn't responsive. They wanted a more kid friendly approach. Main objectives were to show justice, kids, family, community. They required using scales, family, and kid reaching for a star. I would love some input - still tweaking on the kerning and not totally jazzed w/ the 'family' i've drawn. Thanks for any comments you may have!
July 27, 1998- June 18, 2008 Jun 18, 08, 11:22 a.m.
This morning we had to have our dearest dog Bully put to sleep. He went peacefully, as Holly and I held him and kept him calm.
He was diagnosed with intestinal lymphoma a little over a month ago, and though he was a trooper, he just couldn't go on any longer. His suffering became apparent this weekend, so we knew it was time. He was a best friend and will be missed more than can be expressed in words. We are hoping that this isn't too difficult for Bruno; Bully's older brother, and are trying to shower him with all love and attention we can give, but it's been hard today.
Ten years is a long time, but not long enough.
You will be missed B.
InDesign CS3 to FlashPaper Jun 2, 08, 12:53 p.m.
I have a large InDesign document (250+ pages) that i have to convert to FlashPaper - but each page needs to be its own swf file. Is there a script, action or macro that can automate this process? I would hate to have to do this by hand.
Maybe I'm overlooking an obvious solution.
thanks in advance
Chuck Close May 23, 08, 7:40 a.m.
I was flipping through channels and just saw chuck close talking to big bird. ha.
ok - that probably didn't warrant its own thread.
Adobe Stock Photos Mar 19, 08, 9:25 a.m.
Any of you ever use it?
I just saw that it's being discontinued in an effort to 'focus attention on other areas'.
Overpriced anyway.
Wisdom Teeth Mar 14, 08, 9:07 a.m.
Anybody had theirs out?
I got all of mine taken out yesterday - I also set a new record, at least with my oral surgeon who has been practicing for 36 years.
I had TEN wisdom teeth (normal people usually have 4).
I am all hopped up on Oxycodone. it is AWESOME at the moment. I'm kind of drifting in an out of awareness but happy.
marchstache madness Mar 12, 08, 2:58 p.m.
I had a friend who grew a mustache last year for the month of March - It was fun to laugh at him because it looked like ass.
Anybody heard of this or have done this?
Logo Critique Nov 15, 07, 12:36 p.m.
I submitted these as a feed at qbn, but no such luck - thought I'd try here.
This is one batch of preliminary concepts I've submitted (I realize there may be some kerning issues, among others) but wanted opinions on the mark, type choice, or anything else.
This is for a local methodist church. They said they needed to bring an I.D. to a morning service that had waning attendance; they've named the service "connection".
I submitted these prelims 2 weeks ago and have not heard from them, sent them a nice email asking for their input. I hope they aren't trying to ignore me.
