Ruby-Processing

Been having fun with this for 2 weeks now and thought I should post about it :

http://s3.amazonaws.com/jashkenas/images/ruby.jpg

Ruby-Processing is a method for using the Processing library (http://processing.org) in Ruby; a typographically clean and conceptually elegant programming language that I much prefer to Processing's native language: Java. If you're on OS X it's very simple to install.

1. Open up Terminal. It's a program in your Applications > Utilities folder.

2. Paste this into Terminal and hit enter :
sudo gem install ruby-processing

3. Type in your admin password when it asks. That's it. Done. You have Ruby-Processing.

ShellHere is a little app that opens up a new Terminal window to whatever folder location I have open in Finder. So I navigate to the folder that contains my Ruby-Processing app, hit the ShellHere button, and I'm good to go in Terminal.

TextMate is my text editor of choice. Even though it costs money I recommend it over TextWrangler, etc. If you've done Ruby on Rails you're likely already familiar with it.

Ok. So now you know how to install Ruby-Processing, you know a handy free app to pop open Terminal to the folder your Ruby-Processing app is in, but you need to write a program and run it somehow . . . I'll post that in just a sec. In the meantime, here's the Ruby-Processing Getting Started page :

bike building Q

I ordered a new 170mm bontrager crank for my old fuji S.R.R. Frame... I disassembled and removed the old crank assembly to make way for my shiny new gears... The threaded lock rings inside are pretty mashed up and the bearings are ready to fall out. The new crank is a 3-piece with only the arms, gears, and axle included.

My question is: what parts do I need to purchase to make my new crank sit nicely and spin freely inside the frame?

I am a total novice trying to figure this thing out but a lack of knowledge has gotten me stuck at this point.

Canon live view question

Hi guys

I am using the 50mm 1/8 lens on my eos camera (though it seems to be the same with my kit lens) and if i use the eye piece and manual focus the picture is good but when i zoom in is a little fuzzy... but if i use live view and the zoom x 10 (using the top right buttons on the back of the camera) and then manual focus i get a sharper picture... surely its not the case that live view should produce sharper pics than using the eye piece when both use manual focus? Is it that way because i am zooming in on the live view which allows the camera to focus on a smaller area? also im using single point af.

Any help for a complete novice would be appreciated.

James

I Love Pubs

Specifically British Pubs

What's the best / most authentic british pub in YOUR city?

If you are in Great Britain...where do you call home when drinking?

If you're in South Florida I suggest...

Image Management Solutions

We are in the need of a Image Management Server. What do you guys use. We have about 500 Gigs of Images that we need stored on a server. Space is not an issue, we have a SAN. The kicker is we need a way of tagging the images, rating them; and searching on this data.

What if any do you guys use for Images?

Theres an App for that

<p>Its hard to argue with Apples fairly correct coined phrase "Theres an App for that". Its perhaps one of the most correct phrases anyone in the last few years has said, politicians included.</p>
<p>For business users a new app has been developed by <a title="NASE" href="http://www.nase.org/Home.aspx">The National Association for the Self-Employed&nbsp; </a> in the USA and the premise for the creation of the app is stated below.</p>
<p>While it's hard to argue with the functionality of this approach, carrying around a crumpled piece of paper and scribbling various distances on it is perhaps not the most elegant way of tracking business-related mileage.&nbsp; The National Association for the Self-Employed would like to help by offering businesspeople an iPhone app called TripAlly, instead.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Apparently people really struggle with the system of 'writing down and calculating the miles travelled on given trip' so NASE have decieded to create an app. Which according to speculation 'pings' some GPS thing in the sky every .3miles which then through the magic of 'application development' puts it into a simple to read format which can be collated at the end of the year etc, so when you decide to pay your ever growing tax bill you can attempt to cheat the system in the same ways you have always done, this time with an actual product! Woo!</p>
<p>The app also allows you to add notes (woo!) and indeed it might even create a clever pie chart of some type of diagram for you to stare at aimlessly (probably marvelling at the superiority of having an app for recording how far you drive?!?)</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Its a fairly cheap &lt;a style="text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"href="http://www.ulsterbank... target="_blank"&gt;investment&lt... for any of the tech savvy around at the moment. Soon to be retailing for roughly $9.99.&nbsp;</p>
