Flash... I'm worried

Why didn't anyone tell me about this? I had to see this in a CNN the article - point #8 below

http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/pte…

So companies are re-working their sites with HTML5 because iPad doesn't work with Flash?

Is Flash really going to die?? has anyone in here started to feel the effect of this? Has your directors asked you to implement HTML5 instead of Flash? I'm desperate. I've been a fan of Flash since Macromedia Flash v 2.0...

I got 2 major problems

I have 2 major issues, one I think I have solved.
First, I found out by accident that I had a mistake on a resume that I have been sending out for at least 2 months. I did a spell-check and I had the word Art concepting. It should be Art conception. I traced back into where this disaster went wrong and I found out that for some reason the spell-check in Word does not work at all. I've bought a new computer last year, and had not used Microsoft word since, I guess there was a software glitch some how.

Second unrelated issue, for the last 2 weeks, I have some type of paranoia, or I don't know what. But I have this feeling that "strangers" find something funny about my appearance or something. People in the train ride, at the supermarked, or walking by, I have this feeling that they look at me and give this "smirk". This "paranoia" happend about 5 times during the last week. I am not sure if it is because I stopped using rogaine and my bald stop really shows (this is a serious thread, just being honest). Or if I changed the way I "walk" or something. I have advanced degree baldness or something, meaning nothing on top. Unless I "bic" it, or use rogaine for a couple months, it is really noticeable.

What do you think?

help me think of this word

How do you describe someone who can almost forsee the future in their movies or stories.
I'm thinking of visionaire, but no quite.... I can't remember the word.

For example:

(...) director Ridley Scott, made this film Blade Runner.

Someone who can almost predict an idea before their time, like Jules Verne, Leonardo da Vinci...

I can't remember the word, it's not visionaire, It may be 2 words like trend-setter. I can't remember.

Please help.
thanks.

I have a serious question

This is very serious, so don't be a smart ass. Not this time, with your answers.

Please note: I am not asking this for myself, it's for a friend who wants to know.

I want to know if it is illegal in the US to create fake UFO sightings videos.

Please let me know,

Thanks

my thoughs on HTML5

I've run into a fully developed HTML5 website, and let me tell you I'm really disappointed with the direction this is taking. Recently I played some games and the graphics were horrible and immature, but that did not bother me so much. But this does bother me.
I don't want to give out the name of the site, out of respect, but this is what it was: You pretty much write down your address, or where you grew up, and then a music band video will incorporate the google earth map of your said hometown into the video. So if a kid is running through streets, he is superimposed in the background of the google maps real street address you specified, etc. In addition there was about 100 pop-ups and window-resizes to go with it, and the icing in the cake was the beach ball of death when I try closing out of it.

In other words - HTML5 to me is the same as the most annoying Javascripts of the late 1990's (background color flickering, status bar scrolling, time and date). SO FAR I'm dissapointed with HTML5 - and I hope that changes for the better.

are frames still a taboo?

is using frames on websites still a taboo?

any good examples of good frame usage, especially something where they slice graphics in frames, just like u do with tables.

gratefully,

Flash loading script

Is this a common loading script, or is this manually done, in a different way by each designer?
I'm talking about the loading "bar" that goes across the top as a page loads up. I see this in many sites. How do I find this script? Is it already part of Flash?
Here's an example I just saw in another thread one of the portfolios from QBN

who's good in web AND print?

Are there designers around who are good in Web and Print, I mean to professional level.

I've been working in print only, but I have limited knowledge in web. My question is, how do you memorize and become good in both?? Or how do you have time to learn both?

102°F

I stepped outside 8AM morning into a 102°F (39C) weather here in NJ.
I don't mind record breaking temperatures, but I expected it at midday when I'm indoors not this early in the AM...

facing-pages portfolio?

For the ones who have prepared a print portfolio.
Do you use facing pages? (place art on the left and right of the spine)
I was thinking the right page for the final art, and the left page of the spine for insets shots, close-ups or sketches.
I only have 12 projects anyway, but would that even be too much information?
I know how to make the content very settle, and professional. Is that fine, or do you always leave the left page empty?

Thanks

designers and writers

Hi, I am a graphic designer, and I am building my website. I was having a professional copywriter rewrite the "about me" page, which is the home page of my site. This person wrote parts of my resume and I was like wow! when I read it, and wow! when I got job offers and interviews days later. Here's the deal, for the web page she/he wants me to list them as "affiliate copywriter" or place"need copywriter? click here" and link them.
My only concern, is it going to seem weird if some client reads a page of "who I am" and then sees that it was very obviously that a copywriter did it for me. Clients should now that I am there to do graphics not to write stuff, but are they going to think that I am not sincere... or something like that... ???

HTML question

When I write a block of text... and I searched this in my books... couldn't find an answer - but how to do make a carriage return? I mean? I can use the PRE tag, is that reliable? Anyway, how to do make text go into the next line, without making it into a new paragraph... Do I need to use tables? is that it? And this BR tag always gives an error message... (it looks for a /BR

I go to webmonkey.com, and that site is not helpful like it was 5 years ago... Anyone has a good site that gives simple HTML tutorials...
I've been working in print for the last 5 years... and I guess I got a little outdated with web design...
Thank you!

English foot ball-London Games

Did the UK games organizers decided if they will allow Ireland,Scotland and Walles to have their own foot ball teams for the London olympics?

It is completely unfair if England gets to field a team, and not the others.

Was a UK combined team considered?

After Effects

Who uses After Effects in your field?
What are the usages as far as Interactive Media?

Do you import into Flash? Do you import into something other? Any examples from the designers here?

I will be taking a Motion graphics course of the very first time, and I'm really excited about it.
