Typography Question

I am designing a logotype which includes an apostrophe, e.g. Rikki's. Are there any other accepted ways of displaying the 's' without having to use an apostrophe before it?

Who's to blame?

I recently designed a DL leaflet, prepared a PDF/X file and handed it over to the client who were dealing with the printer themselves.

Basically it looks like there was a font problem within the PDF as some of Russian and Czech characters have changed within the document during the print process. As the client did not request a proof from the printer before going ahead, all 30,000 leaflets are now heading for the waste.

So the question is. As I was not dealing with the printing side of things, am I liable in any way for this unfortunate f*ck up?

Folder + Flash Drive compartment

Does anyone know of ways to store a Flash Drive somehow in an oversized A4 folder.

The folder I am designing will have 8mm capacity for storing brochures and a compartment for storing a flash drive. The flash drive will carry some extra data about the product and will be expected to be returned to its original place in the folder.

I guess it could just be attached to one side of the folder using some kind of elastic band and the folder given a larger spine but that would probably look a bit cheap. Also the folder needs to be made from a basic heavy paper stock so I can't really do anything extravagant with it.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help that you may provide :-)

Portrait Photo Website

I'm trying to find a website that I stumbled across about 6 months ago. It was a website with portrait photo's of high school or college students who were extremely ugly or something similar to this.

If anyone knows the name of the site or anthing similar I would be very grateful. It's research for a new project, not my own amusement.

Can we have the logo bigger?

If I hear this phrase once more I think my head's going to pop!!! The more I hear it, the more I think that it's some sick joke that all clients are in on but never let the joke end.

How does everyone else persuade their clients without any design sense to leave the logo sizing to the professionals?

Wireless Connection Problems

More of a tech related question than design but I need to discuss my problem with the Mac community. So here goes...

I've been using my Macbook Pro for just over 3 months now and could connect to the internet wirelessly at home without any problems.

This weekend I downloaded some software updates and now I get the message 'There was an error connecting to the network'.

I did some searching on the net, seems like a lot of people have had the same problem but have not been able to solve it.

I'm interested in finding out if anyone else experienced something similar to this and if they found any solutions?

Illy pen tool question

In Illustrator is there a shortcut for being able to draw a line with the pen tool and then to draw another line without having to select the pointer symbol > click page > reselect pen tool > resume drawing next line?

Thanks in advance.

Image Search

As much as I hate image searching, sometimes it just needs to be done. Unfortunately I need to find an image to represent 'safe money investment'.

Any ideas people before I start the soul destroying iStock search.

Book Design (How to quote)

I have been asked to design an A5 book for a small touristy museum in Prague. I need to give a quote but I'm unsure of what I should charge for this type of job. The printing of it is not my responsibility.

A5, 100 pages, 1 colour, 10 illustrations provided (to be used full page to accompany certain sections).

Any ideas where to start with my quote?

Ad Spec – Phrase?

I've been given dimensions for a magazine advert which are as follows...

94mm x 126mm (Mirror)

I'm unsure of the accompanying phrase 'mirror'. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks
