Design Feedback and Thoughts on v2

As some of you may know, I've launched my first iPhone app and it's doing pretty well. Here it is, in case you haven't seen it.

http://listomaticapp.com/images/ListomaticHome.png

We are already planning for v2, and while I like Listomatic's visual design, if I were going to make any changes, now's the time. So, my questions to you are:

1. What do you think about the current design?

2. What would you do to improve it?

For what it's worth, v2 is going to include a number of features like password protection and reminders for tasks, in case that offers any context.

iPhone App of the Day

After searching and finding nothing, I decided to start an "official" iPhone App of the Day thread. Post any cool, awesome apps you like here.

(Ulterior motive...I have a new iPhone app I want people to download, use, love, rate, etc...and I thought I'd start with this crowd of brilliant, awesome designers.)

So to get this party started, here's my new app, Listomatic:

London QBNers?

I'm going to be in London on Saturday, April 2nd and I wanted to see if any London QBNers would be interested in meeting up for some drinks that night.

I'll be in the Soho/West End area and according to Yelp, there seem to be a number of good/fun pubs nearby like De Hems Dutch Bar, The Red Lion, The Chandos, Duke of Argyll, and The Ship. Let me know!

Subleasing San Diego Office Space

I am a freelance designer who, for a variety of reasons, am in need of some "real" office space. Subleasing space seems to be the way to go and I wanted to see if anybody around here has experience subleasing space, and if so, how and/or where did you find your space? Recommendations for consistently reliable sources would be great.

Also, if you happen to know of any office space currently available for sublease here in San Diego, please let me know.

Going rate for a production designer?

How much would you expect to pay (in USD, per hour) for production design work? I need to hire one and I want to offer a fair rate for their work.

Interested in Developing a Flash Demo?

A client of mine is looking for somebody to recreate a simple Flash demo, and since I hate Flash I thought I might pay it forward and hook up a Flash-savvy QBNer with some work/easy money.

So, if you're interested (and reliable), please get in touch.

Stock Icons: Money to be Made?

The "Icon Designer" thread started by elpaso made me wonder - with all those designers selling their lovely icons, is there actually money to be made in it?

For example, how much would you speculate some of the bigger firms (i.e., Icon Factory, Yellow Icon, and Firewheel) make selling their stock icons? Is it a viable business in its own right, or is it just a way in which these companies fuel their more-lucrative custom design work? Any thoughts?

Desperately Seeking (good/reliable) Developers

I have a few client projects requiring the development of a website, db, and an iPhone app, and so I need to find some high-quality Web and iPhone app developers. I would prefer to work with somebody on the West Coast, but this isn't essential.

Good developers are hard to find, so I would really appreciate any recommendations.

Icon Pricing

I am interested to see the different ways in which you estimate designing icons? Do you quote a flat, per-icon price, are there a certain number of hours you associate with each icon (e.g., 1 icon = 3 hours), or are there other ways in which you might estimate icon design?

For what it's worth, the project I'm estimating right now is for 60 16x16 icons for a desktop software application.

If you had to buy a PC...

...which one would you buy?

I'm considering buying a PC, primarily for a PC game (Cities XL), but also for work (I do software app UI design and all the apps I design are PC-based), and I wanted to get some high-quality feedback before sinking some money into a big turd. What thinkest thou?

Logo Crit Please

A client of mine is in need of a logo, so here's what I have for them.

http://www.ericburress.com/crit/shareonelogo.png

For some background, it's a website from which users would type a comment, click Send, and the comment would be posted on all of their social networking sites, like Facebook, Myspace, and LinkedIn. The intent of this logo was to illustrate how ShareOne creates an interconnectedness between all of a person's (the star) online social networking sites.

I don't have time for a girlfriend...do you?

There is just not enough time in the day to do what I need to do professionally and still sleep, go to the gym, take care of my other obligations...AND manage a girlfriend.

Do I need to figure out a better way to balance work and a personal life, or while business is good, do I just need to cut out girlfriends?

How do you fun folks balance work and a romantic life?

Freelancers, How to Avoid Uncle Sam?

I asked this question in another thread but I thought it more appropriate in its own thread.

I wanted to ask all you freelancers if you had any suggestions on how to best insulate oneself from Uncle Sam? I think I make the most of my write offs/deductions but I wonder if there are other tips for minimizing the tax-time screw-job.

What steps do you take, how much do you normally pay in taxes (total or % of income), etc?

I've started working on a logo for a spiffy new client. They are a search engine of makeout spots and they're targeting a younger crowd. Please let me know what you think.

Medical and Dental Insurance?

I've been working on a new logo for a while and while I think this doesn't entirely suck, how can I really know if I like it if I don't know whether YOU like it? So, to that end, what thinkest thou?

Relationship Question

OK, I have a question for all the fine folks here.

I am in a relationship with a woman and we're having some problems, so I am asking myself the eternal question, "should I stay or should I go?"

She is beautiful and we have a good time together, but we are different in some rather significant ways. We don't communicate very well, there have been times in which she's been deceptive (which has created some trust issues), she's a little more independent than what I think is healthy, and she has a rather cavalier attitude towards our relationship. Some of this stuff wouldn't be a big deal if we were just "having fun," but the fact is that we've talked about marriage and children. We love each other but I realize that sometimes, love isn't enough.

So, what do you folks think? Thoughts? Advice? I realize I am opening myself up to all sorts of shots posting this here, but I thought I might benefit from asking the opinion of some thoughtful, intelligent people. So, if you don't mind, please keep the shtick to a minimum.
