Canon 5d Question Jan 29, 10, 9:42 p.m.

About a year + .5 ago I was thinking of getting into photography. I thought of starting off with medium format, learn about developing film - work with slide film ...the whole nine yards

Soon after the canon 5d Mark 2 or whatever came out. I have yet to see anything look bad coming out of this thing (I reserve that this may be b/c only good photographers buy them, and get enough publicity that i see their pictures)

But at what point will this make creating good looking films / photography, simply the summation of :: an idea, a few lights, and a $5k camera? [Which along with piracy is at least part of the problem with the influx of web designers we see now...(low barriers to entry , easy access and tutorials to pro tools) ]

In general is it easy to just point shoot and be pro with the 5d - (which i may be oversimplifying) and what do you think that means for the photography videography industry?

I once, and probably still have - any opportunity to redesign the coke bottle designs in one of their foreign markets. Not Europe or America.

I was thinking of taken up the offer, but what would you charge? Just a question for fun.

I'm currently trying to open my own studio and am just getting used to pushing my clients financially for what I'm worth, just curious what u guys would say. - (Half way through my first $2k+ site, terrible client tho)

I have a client that wont let this SEO thing die. At this point I'm done explaining how it works; do any of you know good companies that I can throw her way? I don't want to have to sift through that seedy part of the tubes.

Some people wont be satisfied until they pay for something - which is a good thing : unless ur actually trying to help someone out.

For a website that connects user submitted videos together

just want to see if I'm on the right track.

Asked to help with redesign Dec 3, 08, 8:03 p.m.

So I just got brought on to help with a flash/flex project. When asked about what I would charge be baseing an estimate on 50$/hr x estimated hours of work.

They then asked me to look at a website they are redesigning, I'm not supposed to dedicate more than 3 hours - but its not like what I throw together would only be worth 150$ - how much would you charge for 3 hours of design direction -and how would you go about justifying it?

Second problem - after i develop this platform for them - they will pay me 3 - 4k after its all done - but they can then use my application for many different clients - would you ask for residuals ? or just ask for money upfront? (haven't really talked turkey with them yet)

I just got an email with someone looking for samples of a design, to come along with a quote(presumably as a weeding out process). I remember a very interesting brdcst dealing with speculative work; that really opened my eyes to the problem.

Q: Would creating a few sample pages in a pdf be considered speculative, and if yes, how best to still satisfy the clients desires of seeing potential before they pull the trigger.
Is their some type of clause you could add to the bottom of some work, saying any reproduction of whats contained withing this blah blah blah. I know it would be tough in court but I don't think this client is asking for this with malicious intent, they probably just don't understand the speculative work problem.

I have been asked to design a myspace page. Just don't know what the market price is. Its a quasi popular resturant... those in AtlantaGA should be familiar with.

I usually charge 800$ for a normal site and add on from there. But with one page...what do you think?

Designer buys domain for med/lrg restaurant
Designer is replaced by new designer
Domain expires with GoDaddy
Glitch occurs and the domain is never parked (notifying of expired status)
Godaddy sells domain to 3rd party
(This is where it gets funny) - somehow the 3rd party grabbed all the pages and flash content for the site, and pointed the mail servers back to the old godaddy stuff. - No one notices until 2 months later when he changes the mx records

Advice?Guy seems to be in russia which could cause issues with jurisdiction.

Even tho I don't really support the 2012 idea - I've been thinking of this lately,
Unless something completely random happens on D 2012 - earthquake, super volcano etc. we will have some idea of what is going to happen before December. Ie, comet, war, famine, plague, economic crisis... there will be some sort of Event Horizon, or Point of No Return , in which we will know what is going to happen or a possible set of outcomes.
Example , if its a comet; in Feb. 2012 - we see discover it coming into our solar system.
If its some sort of WW3 or combination of things... you get the point

Isn't that a more interesting date? Although we will never know when that EH day will be....what do you guys think; is an answer to the 2012 mystery possible b4 2012?

What would you think of a service, that allowed you to get all of your voice mail, from all your numbers (office, work, home, cell) in a similar fashion to your iphone.
Plus let push your voice mails as emails, look them up on a website etc.etc.
