Business naming legalities Mar 22, 11, 4:38 a.m.
I'm helping my friend out establishing a recruitment company (for his sins... and mine for branding it). He's got a name he wants to use. It's a latin name for nerve endings.
But, another recruitment company already exists with that name. They aren't exactly working in the same sectors, and this other company looks quite established.
Can they both use the name, or will matey get sued down the line? I'm thinking it's safer not to use or change the spelling, but I'm clueless about naming and the legalities.
Does anyone have any gems of knowledge on the matter? Many thanks in advance!
Typeface for sports brand Feb 25, 11, 8:58 a.m.
Sorry in advance for being lazy and asking—
I'm working solo with new british sports brand and I'm looking for a typeface which fits the brand. They do recovery and fitness gear, quite specialist, lots of technology involved in the fabrics. They are specialist experts, they know their stuff.
I've been pushing them to use bold futuras but they aren't 100% in love with it, so I'm investigating further.
If any typefaces come to mind please say. My head can't get past the usual suspects, argh!
Thanks in advance.
Branding books May 11, 10, 8:44 a.m.
Can anymore recommend a good branding book that would appeal to designers?
Not a ' dummies how to' book, but more for people with a good understanding, and maybe the book would take a punt at future branding practices.
I've got a Wolff Ollins book so ancient it barely acknowledges the internet and I've got 'Soon - Brands of Tomorrow' which is pretentious crap.
Thanks for any help in advance.
best job role to send cv too Mar 3, 10, 2:47 a.m.
I feel I should know this answer, maybe because I've always worked in small agencies I don't. So who would be the best person to send my graphic designer cv too,
The Creative Director
or
The Design Director
or even
The Office manager?
I should probably call up and ask in every instance, but is there a general answer here?
Tried qbn 'search' but no help. Many thanks in advance.
Future design careers Jan 13, 10, 8:31 a.m.
I'm a print designer currently migrating to web. One of many reasons for migrating was the feeling print is nearing it's expiry date. Not enough work, too many people who I wouldn't call talented competing for diminishing budgets, loss of effectiveness, etc blah blah. I wanted out.
Then I thought, what if the same thing happens to web work? I read about thinks like Wizz it, and I believe the likes of WordPress and Indexhibit will only become easier to customise to a point where anyone with a internet connection can design a website that looks half decent to the casual eye.
So what bothers me is the thought that web work in a few years time will be in a similar scenario print currently finds itself in and I walked straight into it, again.
If you think the above sounds like load of bollocks then please say - I'd be a happy man. I'd be interested to hear thoughts on whether you think web will have a strong or diminished careers market in the far-ish future.
