IIS - Unique IP Jan 12, 12, 1:09 p.m.
Anyone by chance have an idea why a website setup in IIS and bound to a unique IP and port 80 fails to respond to the IP in a browser?
http://[siteipaddress] just yields a 404.
Also tried http://[siteipaddress]:80
Online Magazine Platform Dec 19, 11, 2:25 p.m.
I have a client who publishes a monthly magazine for their society and now want to do a full online format. It'll integrate as a component of their larger site.
Just wanted thoughts or opinions regarding online publishing platforms. Is there something we should look at, or better just to start from scratch and built to suit (which we have done before)? It's not a terribly large magazine. In a month there is usually an interview, 2-3 articles and about 6-10 small, regular features.
Should I just stick with a regular CMS for the magazine portions?
Thanks in advance for any input.
PDF Document Submissions System Oct 28, 11, 1:45 p.m.
I have a client who wants the following functionality and I am not sure it's even possible.
They want users to submit PDF of technical papers they have written. Then, based on info they provided in an online submissions form to a database, have a PDF title page generated and appended to the submitted document.
Anyone seen, done something like this or have any thoughts? I would REALLY appreciate it.
Thanks!
Need a Coldfusion Developer Oct 3, 11, 9:32 a.m.
Anyone still practice or remember their CF? I need to modify an old set of scripts for a client. Nothing too hard or too large. Send me a message if you are interested and I can fill you in better.
New Shaw Data Plans Jun 16, 11, 3 p.m.
For those of us in Canada who get Shaw as an ISP, they sure changed gears from scaling back plans and caps a few months ago to totally revamping with some pretty nice options and incredible data rates:
http://www.shaw.ca/Internet/newp…
Now, if I can only dig up any info on whether they are throttling any traffic (netflix etc) with all these new plans.
Movie Clip Stitcher/Joiner May 30, 11, 12:38 p.m.
Anyone have any recommendation for a PC movie clip joiner (mp4 etc.).?
I know I can use Premiere et al, but I'm looking for something smaller and quicker.
Thanks
.NET Developers in Calgary May 3, 11, 10:46 a.m.
I know it's a stretch posting here, but thought it couldn't hurt.
I wanted to see if there were any ASP.NET (and MS-SQL) devs in the Calgary, AB area who could do a little bit of consulting work this summer. Nothing too heavy, a basic document archive system and some other general consulting.
I'd prefer in area, but still open to remote work.
If there is actually someone here, let me know. Post here or email me (in my profile).
Cheers!
Conference Sites Apr 20, 11, 9:19 a.m.
Anyone have any examples of some great conference/convention sites they may have come across or worked on? Ones that do a great job of presenting a very content heavy home page...
Note to the F*cken Amateurs Apr 14, 11, 1:44 p.m.
If you are responsible for brand collateral like the logo of a fortune 500 company and you send me the following, just find a new line of work please:
Sending a version of the logo with editable text... with fonts that are not embedded or included. OUTLINE those bitches!
Objects not grouped. C'mon!
Sending RGB versions where they know it's for print... fine, I'll convert the colorspace.
Always saving it in the most recent Adobe CS version, instead of saving it down a couple versions. We don't always update every bloody release.
I remember the days when we had to save it back 4 or 5 versions as best practice (AI6 and AI8 for standards for a long time even after CS1 came out).
Adding Page Comments Apr 11, 11, 8:42 p.m.
I've got a client running a Coldfusion site who wants to basically add page comments to a single page for users to review/comment on a PDF document.
The only reqs other than that are a captcha and an ability to review posts for approval first.
The Coldfusion community is clearly a dying breed and pretty much any promising leads on existing solutions are dead projects.
Anyone have any ideas for web services or something else I can use to incorporate this functionality?
Given the limited use, there is no budget for a custom solution.
Catalog Viewers Feb 22, 11, 1:39 p.m.
Any suggestions on good online PDF / catalog viewers? jQuery or the like preferred, but Flash is fine if all XML based. If I have to convert the pages to images for it, that's not a concern.
I've found a few online but they are either ugly or overly done with too many fancy features. Just a simple one with a solid zoom option.
Royalty Free Music Sources? Jan 5, 11, 9:48 a.m.
Looking for quality royalty free music sources. Suggestions for stuff beyond PD classical, bad jazz and worse synth?
(BTW please withhold the jokes about royalty free and quality going together) :)
Social Media Icon / Element Integration Dec 15, 10, 8:03 a.m.
Anyone have any nice examples of sites that have really integrated their social media icons and/or content into their design? I mean more than just custom icons or anything, but where the social media elements really fee like they are part of the design and not the typical tacked on rows of icons at the top or bottom of the content.
ASP.NET books Nov 23, 10, 2:55 p.m.
Any recommendations on books that cover the fundamentals of the ASP.NET platform? I am not looking at developing myself, but more a general understanding to better communicate with developers on basic levels. Trying to come at some concepts from a PHP understanding is not working.
Thanks in advance.

Soliciting rebranding Nov 17, 10, 10:37 a.m.
I am working on a project for an organization seeking a rebrand. It's larger scope that I do and I will just be managing it, so I will be coordinating with another designer/firm.
My question is to those of you that do a lot of larger branding projects... what info do you like to see presented to you about the organization and it's vision to help you in the work?
So ideally, what would be in a dream info and request package that would make things easiest and most interesting to you?
CC info in PDF Forms Oct 19, 10, 9:13 a.m.
A client wants to have customers input CC info in an interactive PDF form and have the customer email it back. I am concerned its not really better than having them send the info in an email itself. Either way its not secure.
Any suggestions to make this more secure without burdening the customer?
QBN Classic Oct 6, 10, 8:42 p.m.
Did I miss something? My QBN homepage was this a minute ago and now its gone:
New option coming "QBN Classic Layout" or is this something old I am clueless on?
.ME Jul 16, 10, 9:43 a.m.
Anyone actually have or use a .me domain for their name and their personal sites etc?
CF or .NET Gallery Jul 15, 10, 9:58 a.m.
Sorry for the mundane question, but options are limited when not using PHP.
I am looking for a photo gallery I can drop into a page that just displays a simple grid view with a lightbox style viewing. I have found some slideshow styles, but that is not what I want and I don't have the time to modify.
We need to batch upload and automatically generate thumbnails and CF or .NET are my options to process the images.
Any recommendations? Google hasn't been helpful.
