Canadian Politics con't Oct 9, 08, 11:54 a.m.
Well, since it looks like the mods closed (exists but can't post) the Canadian Politics thread, I am hopefully continuing it.
QBN mods, we have an election coming up too and this forum has people from around the world, not just the US. It's way too chaotic to keep both under just the one 'Poltics' thread.
iStock Photo Rates Oct 15, 08, 5:32 p.m.
Anyone else notice that iStock photo has been raising their rates every couple weeks/months since Getty bought them?
In the last year, the 26 credit pack has gone up about about 40%. And just since last month I noticed the 50 cred packs went up around $10 again.
I am not saying that iStock isn't a good deal, but are these price hikes going to the photographers (which is fine) or is it just to help cover the floundering Getty division?
Stocks and eTrade Oct 10, 08, 11:52 a.m.
With some many high profile stocks bottoming out, I am thinking of picking up a few, gambling that many of them will rebound it time.
Has anyone used online services like eTrade and what experiences have you had?
Note to the F*cken Amateurs Apr 14, 11, 1:44 p.m.
If you are responsible for brand collateral like the logo of a fortune 500 company and you send me the following, just find a new line of work please:
Sending a version of the logo with editable text... with fonts that are not embedded or included. OUTLINE those bitches!
Objects not grouped. C'mon!
Sending RGB versions where they know it's for print... fine, I'll convert the colorspace.
Always saving it in the most recent Adobe CS version, instead of saving it down a couple versions. We don't always update every bloody release.
I remember the days when we had to save it back 4 or 5 versions as best practice (AI6 and AI8 for standards for a long time even after CS1 came out).
Workplace Pranks Nov 22, 06, 9:54 a.m.
What has everyone got for good workplace pranks?
One that's quick and easy is mess with people's MS Word auto complete settings.
A while back a guy, Dave who was messing around at work with a girl (he thought in secret), I changed it so when he typed his name Word would fill in:
"Dave was caught screwing Donna from behind and is going to be fired any day now."
I thought he was going to have a stroke!
Every time he erased it and tried his name, it would fill it in again.
Even better, replace the word "the" or "and" with curse words. They'll never get anything done.

Topless Coffee Shop Feb 28, 09, 11:11 p.m.
Topless coffee shop a hit in small Maine town
On Monday, Donald Crabtree opened Grand View Topless Coffee Shop in Vassalboro, Maine, where the waiters and waitresses serve their customers topless.
Congrats USA, you're British! Sep 8, 09, 12:25 p.m.
Some words Americans were smart to not use:
banger = sausage
bimble = stroll
bum bag = a bag worn on a strap around the waist
cack = nonsense
choong = attractive person - usually referring to a female
dosh = money
fag end = cigarette butt
googled = a cricket term no less
gutties = running shoes
kecks = trousers or underpants
manky = feeling ill
mong = disgusting, dirty
pong = a strong unpleasant smell
pukka = legitimate, the real thing
quim = female genitalia
scrumping = stealing apples from an orchard
skint = out of money
tiger nuts = small remnants of toilet paper that cling to body hair after bowel movement
That is all.
Just messing with you Janne. :D

San Francisco Trip Mar 30, 08, 12:55 p.m.
All you folks living in the city, my wife and I will be spending just 4 days there this summer, and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good area/hotel to stay in? We're looking around the Wharf at this point. Anything special we need to take in (beyond the obvious)? Neither of us have ever been. Cheers!
Apple Commercials Oct 24, 06, 7:33 a.m.
Anyone else had enough of the "Get a Mac" TV spots? Talk about beating a dead horse... especially when I am starting to like the 'PC' guy better...
Royalty Free Music Sources? Jan 5, 11, 9:48 a.m.
Looking for quality royalty free music sources. Suggestions for stuff beyond PD classical, bad jazz and worse synth?
(BTW please withhold the jokes about royalty free and quality going together) :)

QBN Classic Oct 6, 10, 8:42 p.m.
Did I miss something? My QBN homepage was this a minute ago and now its gone:
New option coming "QBN Classic Layout" or is this something old I am clueless on?
Tramp Stamp May 8, 08, 11:41 p.m.
With the too common 'tramp stamp' inked on every 2nd party girl nowadays, do we realize how nasty our generation is going to be when we are old? How many grandmas will bend over in 30-40 years and have a wrinkled old tat that says 'juicy' or a near indistinguishable butterfly showing. It may be sexy now... but wait until the grand kids ask grandma what 'juicy' means.
It keeps me awake.

Mobile Redirects Apr 29, 12, 2:11 p.m.
Quick question with redirecting to mobile sites. I don't do a lot of them (dedicated ones), I am trying to instead to focus on adaptive design layouts, so bear with me.
I have a redirect script to detect the device and redirect to the mobile site, m.domain.com.
But they want a 'full site' link on the mobile version, so what's the best way to do that and not get stuck in a loop? Because if I just link back to the home page, the script will kick in and bounce them back to mobile.
Should I use another script that checks where they were referred from? If coming from the mobile subdomain, do not redirect? Should I use a cookie? Is there a 'proper' way to implement this in the mobile space?
Return to Retro Feb 19, 09, 6:04 p.m.
I've been reading a lot about interior design trends and how we'll be further pressing towards warm tones, deep, rich woods etc. in a subconscious attempt to feel comfortable, warm and safe in in our surroundings. A sort of nesting mentality. A lot of comparisons to the 70s have been made as the tougher economic conditions encouraged similar styles and behaviors back then.
So that said, and switching gears a bit, do you think that companies will be working to bring back memories of happier times by delving into the vault and bringing back a lot of retro branding, campaigns, packaging etc? Much more than anything we've seen recently.
Obviously Pepsi has gone the other way, but most people in their comments have gravitated to preferring their older branding, decades old branding even. What are your thoughts?
