while using the clone tool, if i click the Option key more than 5 times, it disables my keyboard.

teach me about alcohol. i've never been a big drinker, but i've been going out a lot at night lately and am not that well-versed when it comes to ordering drinks. i usually just order a gin-tonic.

i'm ok with beers, i know what i like. but what are some good hard liquors to order? we usually start out in a loungy environment, and then go to dancy place after, so i think the setting should play a role in what i get. gimme a good 'mans' drink. tell me some good whiskeys etc etc. what are you favorite brands in each 'category' of alcohol?

I'm trying to find a way to bend text in Illustrator by using a bezier curve. The Arc filters do not seem to allow me to do this.

So if you could imagine the word "Sample" bending to conform to the shape under it, that's what I want to achieve. Does that make sense? I tried googling, but got nothing useful.

I do some freelance for an agency. They want an estimate for coming up with name ideas for future clients.

Do I charge my usual design fee, or does this require a separate fee? I feel like it should be priced lower, as it involves being creative, but doesn't require any technical skills.

I do not know who or how big the clients will be, so I can't estimate based on that.

Thoughts appreciated.

Simple 3D Program? Apr 4, 12, 3:14 p.m.

I'm looking for very basic 3D software for Mac. I'm trying to lay out a city landscape. I just need the ability to create simple block shapes, and to quickly replicate those blocks, have them at different sizes and heights, and color them.

I've Googled and tried about five different programs, Sketchup, Blender, etc. Everything is either crappy or is too complex.

They're sitting on their couch right now, picking a booger, watching Big Bang Theory... and tomorrow they'll have a half billion dollars in their possession. It's kind of hard to wrap my mind around something like that. To go from relatively nothing to ultra wealthy in literally 1 minute.

So, what would you do?

I'd change my name. Travel for a year straight. Alternate between my apartments in Amsterdam, Paris, Florence, and NYC. Ride my bicycle around. Buy a great white shark and train it to play nice with me. Pretty much lay as low as possible.

Night Terrors Feb 29, 12, 1:18 a.m.

Does anybody else get these? I think that's what I'm experiencing. I had one two nights ago and I usually get one every few months or so. They're incredibly intense. It's hard to explain... I think you're aware but your REM sleep cycle has not finished yet... so you're physically paralyzed in your nightmare state. The line between awake and asleep becomes blurred. This paralyzation is usually accompanied by visions of an evil black shadow at the foot of the bed or just over your shoulder, and a blindingly loud whooshing noise... in some of my cases anyway.

It's an incredible feeling of helplessness and pure horror because of the paralysis of your body. You can't react to what's going on around you (or what you're imagining is going on around you).

In this most recent episode, I heard a thud outside my bedroom door, so I bolted out of bed and opened the door. I saw nothing but darkness except for a heavy breathing sound in front of my face. I'm standing there in front of my door and become instantly paralyzed. I try to raise my left hand to protect myself, but can only barely get my fingers up. Just standing there for what seems like an eternity, at the mercy of this dark force in front of me.

Thing is, I can't tell if this actually happened or if it was all mental. Was it 100% a dream, or did I actually get out of bed? I still don't know. I never know.

I seemed to have discovered what triggers them. Before falling asleep, if I'm simply sleeping on my back with my arms to my sides, I'll likely have one. Good thing I'm mostly a side sleeper.

In a messed up way, it's fun. I remember during one episode I was encouraging, even daring, the "demon shadow" to fuck with me and laughing like a crazy demented fuck. It was like a role-reversal, and I was becoming the evil one.

I did a logo for my Uncle's new venture. He's an electrical engineer inventing a special taillight for ATV's. The product has potential.

It's a great logo, but it took me just one day to create it. He loves it, I love it. We didn't agree on a price beforehand. We didn't even talk about money, it was very informal. Also, I am not working currently, but do not need the money... so it didn't eat up any time that I could've been using to work on other projects.

What kind of money should I charge him? He's close family. Something like this would've gotten $3500 at the old agency I worked at. I was thinking asking him for $300 and calling it a day. It was minimal effort, but the final product came out very nice.

does anybody know of a store or website that sells some unique baby stuff? maybe something with some good design qualities to it? it doesn't necessarily have to be a toy... it could something the parents could use FOR the baby... like a rocking chair or something.

What are your views on smoke shops?

I want to one up in downtown Portland, OR. I have the capital to do it. My friend has one (not in Portland) and it's pretty lucrative. Attempting to buy an existing one is near impossible, since nobody wants to sell their shop. So I'd have to start a fresh one. Portland State University is close by, so there's a market there... plus with the smoking culture of Portland, I could sell pipes too.

Do you think a store like this would be welcome in Portland, or looked down on? It is unethical? Should I even care?
