Evolution Sep 28, 12, 3:45 p.m.
This thread is for debating and discussing evolution.
I'll start by saying that I am firmly in the "evolution happened on here Earth" camp.
If you haven't yet, you really should watch the first few episodes of Carl Sagan's "The Cosmos." The entire series is great, and whether you're a creationist or a supporter of evolutionary theory, you will probably thoroughly enjoy the richness of it regardless.

Indefinite Detention | Battlefield Earth Dec 15, 11, 10:28 p.m.
In regards to this year's N.D.A.A. H.R. 1540 - Section 103, which passed the house and senate and is about to be signed into law:
Is a unprecedented, historical attack on our civil liberties in this country considered a "Politics" only subject? And, if someone already dedicated a thread to this, the search thing sucks—forgive me.
I can't believe this isn't at least a top 24 topic on here today.

Happy Birthday, Bill [of Rights]: Obama Breaks Promise To Veto Bill Allowing Indefinite Detention of Americans
From the link above:
"...At least Senator Lindsey Graham was honest when he said on the Senate floor that “1031, the statement of authority to detain, does apply to American citizens and it designates the world as the battlefield, including the homeland.”
I am not sure which is worse: the loss of core civil liberties or the almost mocking post hoc rationalization for abandoning principle. The Congress and the President have now completed a law that would have horrified the Framers. Indefinite detention of citizens is something that the Framers were intimately familiar with and expressly sought to bar in the Bill of Rights. While the Framers would have likely expected citizens in the streets defending their freedoms, this measure was greeted with a shrug and a yawn by most citizens and reporters. Instead, we are captivated by whether a $10,000 bet by Romney was real or pretend in the last debate.
Even more distressing is the statement from sponsor Senator Levin, Chairman of the Armed Services Committee that “The language which precluded the application of Section 1031 to American citizens was in the bill that we originally approved ... and the administration asked us to remove the language which says that U.S. citizens and lawful residents would not be subject to this section.”

Handling the non-creative side Aug 15, 11, 12:20 p.m.
I believe there was a post on qbn, (that i cannot, for the life of me, find again) about a company in Los Angeles that essentially handles all the non-creative aspects of being an independent graphic designer/creative for you. They bill your clients, keep track of costs, help you acquire new clients all that and more. They had a cool site too, with an animated growing tree showing their services. Any one got a lead on it? Much appreciated, thanks!
Exposing Faulty Clients Mar 14, 11, 6:45 p.m.
How do you guys and gals deal with faulty freelance clients?
i think I need to put my foot down on a client who hasn't paid for design services rendered over a year ago (!) He has not responded to repeated emails and phonecalls.. and before that it was just excuse after excuse.
He runs a clothing company with someone else. I was thinking of reporting him and his company to the Better Business Bureau.
Are there other suitable (& legal) threat/consequence tactics I can use? Perhaps a sort of high traffic "Client Review" site where i can share my experience with others?
I don't want another designer to fall sucker prey. Not to mention a little well deserved retribution mhmm. How do you deal with these particular slimeballs?
Should I just move on? Its not that much loot, but its more the principle of the thing.
grrrr.
Vector Magic [Desktop] Mar 11, 09, 4:44 p.m.

crazy ol' p-shop Q Feb 20, 09, 12:37 p.m.
Dare I ask...
is it possible?
...to automatically crop an image right down to the pixel. Like a p-shop crop setting? (the image has the checkerboard pattern all around it, and i want to get rid of that without thinkin bout it.) Would save tons of time, cuz i always manually zoom in and drag and drag. What a drag.
I wanna place the result in illy, sharp and precise.
Thanx gurus.

Radio Lab - "Sperm" Feb 18, 09, 11:17 a.m.
I love radio lab, makes the hours fly by and my brain glow. This one's about sperm. Another favorite is the one on lying. Open the player and enjoy.

» Why So Many Sperm?
Matthew Cobb takes us back to 1677, when Anton Van Leewenhoek first identified sperm and there was much talk of souls and miniature men residing in the seminal fluid. Upon observation it became clear that there were an awful lot of those little guys that never turned into babies! Jad wonders: why so many sperm? Bird-sex specialist Tim Birkhead, of the University of Sheffield, explains what effect imperfect monogamy has on reproductive strategies. Then sperm physiologist Joanna Ellington and her pig Hazel give us some insight into the obstacles sperm must overcome in their odyssey from their male originator to their female destination.
